I love the above photo. Not just because I was having a really good hair day but because of the back story of this pic. This day was literally the worst. I had these grandiose thoughts of what family photos at the beach would look like. Sunset's golden hour beaming down on our perfectly smiling faces, capturing the true southern California life just in time to send out for Christmas cards and make everyone jealous, I mean jolly.
Don't get it twisted. We were running late and about to miss that stupid sunset. The child was having major freak outs because her wonderful mother forgot to feed her dinner. The husband and wife were not speaking other than side glances and rolling of the eyes. Sand was EVERYWHERE, we were dirty, cold and did I mention hungry?
To my amazement we got a photo that looked like we actually were happy and loved each other. The truth behind everyone's filtered and perfectly cropped photos is life is messy and sometimes down right hard. However, a beautiful thing occurs in the crazy. A wonderful gift comes that lifts and carries us into forgiveness, washes over us in the midst of struggle and helps steady our feet in the waves. Just as life can seem to overwhelm us, this gift from God comes rushing in...and grace happens.
